Heather Stewart
Oldtime Blues, Country & Folk

Powerful vocals, oldtime blues, country fiddle, awesome fingerpicking guitar, harp and swampin' stompin' drums make the Heather Stewart Trio a band you won't want to miss!

"I have shared the stage with Heather Stewart on many occasions, she can draw from her classical experience and play right from the heart... but then she can turn it all around and play some down home dirty blues right from her gut"
Jimi Hocking

Vocalist and violinist Heather Stewart started her professional career as a classically trained violinist and vocalist, fell in love with Trad. Jazz and going back to her roots, found her home in the rich and earthy sounds of the Blues...  More about Heather Stewart.

String Workshops // teaching n stuff

Some of you know Heather Stewart as a violin teacher, researcher and workshopper.  She finished a research Masters last year examining and implementing improvisation in beginner string training.  She began sharing some of this info at the 2009 National Austa Conference (Australian Strings Association). Her presentation and workshop detailed major aspects of her research study and then introduced over 70 students from young children, teenagers and other string teachers to improvisation games and the rhythmic accompaniment, melody and basic ornaments for Cajun tune "Port Arthur Blues".

Heather has recently taken workshops in Canberra and Melbourne and invitations are starting to come from all over the country.  Austa Canberra had three workshop groups with children up to "Grade 4", intermediate teens and adults and finally tertiary performers and teachers.  Each workshop concentrated on varying aspects of improvisation, game play, exploration of the instrument, and introducing approaches for beginning to play Blues, Cajun and Jazz repertoire.

Heather is currently working on turning her completed masters thesis into a book.  "I was planning on sending the thesis out for interested people to read, but would like to produce a more concise version with additional links and information on this site.  I am more than happy for people to email me questions or come for private lessons.

A NEW PAGE will be up on this site this month with updates and articles about Heather's book/research.

Adelaide Tour

The recent Adelaide tour - "Heather Stewart with Sweet Baby James and Rob Eyers" was a huge success!!
Live at Lefties in Whyalla was SOLD OUT and rocked!  CDs sold like high temperature scones & the people there really let us know they had a great time!
The Wheatsheaf Hotel introduced me to more wonderful SA wine and warm welcoming people.  What a great venue & awesome skating staff!
What can I say about the Semaphore Workers Club...?  It was one of the most amazing and wonderful gigs I've had the privilege of being in.

The venue, Dave Pearse and the jumping and screaming audience were great!

All in all, t'was a great trip.  The fellas and I really enjoyed playing music together and by the last show were really cookin'.

New musical projects are brewing following this trip - so stay in touch with Sweet Baby or myself.
Really looking forward to the next trip to Adelaide - (so let us and the venues know how much you want us to come back!), and next time - I'll be bringing a newly released album!

Womboota Hall

The Womboota Hall gig with the Heather Stewart Trio was a great success. Dan Dinnen, Danny McKenna and Heather Stewart played two powerful but evocative sets on a cold rainy night with the audience listening warm & toasty inside the historical School of Arts Hall.
